Who is Mohamed Abbas
Four callings, one voice.
Few people bring all four to the mihrab and the stage. Mohamed Abbas memorized the Quran by fifteen, studied medicine at Kasr Al Ainy, represented Egypt in Munshid Al Sharjah, and since 2016 has served communities across America as imam, khateeb, reciter and nasheed artist.

About
Imam at The Mecca Center
There is a moment, a few verses in, when the room goes completely still. No one moves. No one wants to. Mohamed Abbas recites, and for as long as his voice lasts, you are somewhere else entirely. Then he lifts a nasheed, and that same room rises to its feet.
Before the mihrab, there was medicine. Mohamed Abbas studied at Kasr Al Ainy, the historic faculty of medicine at Cairo University, where he learned the body down to the rhythm of the heart. Then his path turned fully to the Quran and the nasheed, and his work still ends in the same place: the heart.
“The doctor of the body and soul.”
Born in Egypt, Mohamed Abbas is an imam at The Mecca Center in Chicago, a world-renowned Qari and a nasheed artist with a voice all his own. He carries that feeling across the world and leaves it behind wherever he goes. In the United States alone, his recitation and his nasheeds have filled masjids and community gatherings in more than 35 states.
Behind the voice is a lifetime with the Quran. He holds ijaza and sanad, certified chains of transmission, in the narrations of Hafs and Shu'ba from Asim, and is known for his mastery of the maqamat, the melodic modes of recitation.
